WETLAND by Michael Kvium – Where Water and Land Unites
Where water and land meet in expansive coastal landscapes, amidst peaceful, scenic surroundings, you are welcomed at Nivaagaard´s Malerisamling into Michael Kvium’s latest exhibition, WETLAND. Prepare yourself for an experience filled with looming danger, as well as both coarse and tender humor.
WETLAND
In the moving exhibition WETLAND, created specifically for the occasion, Michael Kvium’s latest works are brought together with the Nivaagaards Malerisamling’s older art, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation.
The exhibition takes the viewer on a visual journey, where the relationship between land and water is not just a backdrop but becomes a central theme in Kvium’s artistic exploration.
Through the theme of nature’s fragility, Kvium creates a strong contrast between the grotesque and the poetic. This balance, combined with an underlying sense of threat, challenges our understanding of humanity’s place in the world.
Michael Kvium as an Artist
Michael Kvium (b. 1955) is considered one of Denmark’s most significant artists and is often described as a neobaroque master.
Kvium is renowned for his technical brilliance and his ability to capture the absurdities of contemporary life and human folly with a precision that both fascinates and unsettles. His works display both tender and dark humor, as well as sharp observations that evoke strong emotions in the viewer.
