Expierence the exhibition 'Rainbow Tornado' at Tegner’s Museum
Rudolph Tegner’s Museum sets the stage for a colourful challenge to the monumental and masculine, as Esben Weile Kjær presents Rainbow Tornado.
A Maximalist Exhibition of Glitter and Force
As Rainbow Tornado unfolds in the museum’s iconic octagonal hall, visitors are greeted by a 10-metre tall spiral sculpture clad in dazzling rainbow colours. Positioned directly above Rudolph Tegner’s grave, the sculpture draws inspiration from childhood fairy tales and the spectacle of pop culture.
Weile Kjær orchestrates a clash between the destructive force of the tornado and the glamour of the chandelier – a visual and conceptual dialogue with Tegner’s masculine legacy.
Wands, Devils and New Perspectives on Tegner
The exhibition includes four new works: polished steel sculptures depicting devils and magic wands. These fantastical elements heighten the exhibition’s playful and symbolic tone.
Through humour and a queer lens, the artist invites the audience to reimagine Tegner’s universe – less gendered, less solemn, and more playful.
Glitter as a Message in Uncertain Times
Glitter is more than mere decoration. For Esben Weile Kjær, it symbolises transformation, celebration, and resistance. Rainbow Tornado connects with a cultural tradition where times of uncertainty fuel creative revolutions, like Berlin in the 1930s, where nightlife became a response to political and economic unrest.
The exhibition brings sparkle and colour into the concrete halls of the museum, creating a “glittering snow globe” of queer fantasy and pop drama.
