The History of Carnival Masks

The tradition of wearing masks dates back to Renaissance carnivals of the 1500s. Masks were used to conceal identities, allowing wearers to break free from societal norms. In Denmark, the carnival was originally an adult celebration filled with food, drink, and dancing, where masks symbolized the suspension of social rules.
