City walk in Frederiksværk - Art and Architecture in the Streets of the city

Discover how Frederiksværk’s industrial history has shaped both the art and architecture in the town’s public spaces. This walking tour combines historic buildings with fascinating artworks that tell unique stories of the town’s development.

Masterpieces of Industrial Architecture

Frederiksværk is renowned for its unique architecture, deeply rooted in its rich industrial history. During this walking tour, you’ll visit the historic cannon foundry from the 1760s – an impressive building that stands as a testament to Frederiksværk’s industrial past. Additionally, participants will gain insight into the elegant homes of factory owners and the functional design of workers’ housing, which together form a vital part of the town’s architectural heritage.

Art in the Town’s Streets

The tour also highlights some of Frederiksværk’s most notable artworks. At the arsenal, you’ll encounter the test cannon, now serving as the base for Wiedewelt’s precise bust of Major General Classen – the founder of Frederiksværk.

Modern Works with Historical Roots

The walking tour includes a look at contemporary artworks such as the thought-provoking “Corona” and Leif Nielsen’s “Papercut.” The latter, crafted in sheet steel by workers at the local steel rolling mill, illustrates the connection between the town’s art and its industrial heritage.
