Art and culture by bike - 3 museums in one day in North Zealand
Explore art and history at Munkeruphus, Rudolph Tegner's Museum & Statue Park, and Esrum Abbey - all in one day. The bike tour takes you along the coast of Øresund from Gilleleje to Dronningmølle, and as the route turns into the rolling landscape, you'll also get a glimpse into the history of how kings have shaped the landscape, dug canals, and built castles.
On this bike tour, you'll combine three fantastic museums while enjoying the landscapes of the National Park of Royal North Zealand.
Start in Gilleleje
Follow bike route 47 from the eastern part of the town to the first museum stop, Munkeruphus. After the visit, continue east, turn right onto Villingerødvej, and turn left at Dronningmølle Station.
Start in Dronningmølle
Turn right out of the station onto Dronningmølle Stationsvej, follow it to the main road, and turn right onto Dronningmølle Strandvej. Already at the campground, turn right onto Strandkrogen.
Rudolph Tegner's Museum
Turn right onto the path leading under the railway. Keep an eye out for a small wooden sign showing the way to Tegner's Museum.
Esrum Abbey and Millyard
After the visit, drive along Museumsvej, the gravel road from the parking lot. Turn left onto Villingerødvej. Drive to the end, turn right onto Esrum Hovedgade, and left onto Klostergade to Esrum Abbey.
After the visit, return via Klostergade and turn right onto Esrum Hovedgade. Turn left onto Rishavevej. Continue straight ahead, the road becomes a gravel road and later a wheel track until it finally leads into Snevret/Snævret forest.
Through the forest
Continue straight through the forest until it becomes a gravel road that ends at Dragstrup Enghave (no sign). Turn left and continue to Dragstrup. Here, turn right onto Dragstrupvej. Turn left onto Søgårdsvej and immediately right onto Firhøjvej. Follow Firhøjvej across the tracks to the intersection. Here, go straight onto the gravel road Hesbjergvej and drive along the edge of the holiday home area. When the road forks, at a small lake, follow the wheel track Højvejen to the right. Turn left at the first intersection onto Slåenvangen 52-1. The road makes a right turn.
Munkeruphus
Turn left at the first opportunity at the small intersection on Bynkevangen (no sign). Bynkevangen leads you down to Munkerup Strandvej right in front of Munkeruphus.
After the visit, you can choose to drive to Gilleleje station or Dronningmølle station.

- Length: 21 km (round trip from Dronningmølle) and 28 km (round trip from Gilleleje)
- Surface: Primarily asphalt, but also forest paths and smaller trails
- Suitable for: Culture enthusiasts, adults, and older children. Note that the shorter stretches along Kystvejen 237 are on a busy road without a bike lane.
- Toilet: The 3 museums, Dronningmølle Strand
- Season: Be aware that Munkeruphus and Rudolph Tegner Museum are open in the summer months, and the daily opening hours are shorter than you might expect. But the bike ride is lovely in spring and autumn too, as the parks around the 2 museums are always open. Esrum Kloster is open year-round.
