The North Coast Route - Route 47, is a marked and scenic cycling and hiking trail in North Zealand, stretching along the Danish Riviera between Helsingør, Gilleleje, and Hundested. The journey takes you through outstanding natural areas, with endless views, charming coastal towns, lovely beaches, and plenty of attractions. Along the route, you'll find many charming stops such as Gilleleje, Tisvildeleje, and Liseleje, where cafés, restaurants, and farm shops create cosy oases during your trip.

The North Coast Route, also known as Route 47, stretches over 65 km and can be cycled in one day, but we recommend taking your time to enjoy the journey.

You can divide the route into several stages and stay overnight in the charming coastal towns, at campsites, or in the idyllic seaside hotels along the way. With overnight stays, you have the opportunity to dive into the soul of the small towns, take a dip in the sea, and enjoy the stunning views of the Kattegat.

For those seeking an active holiday, the route is suitable for both cyclists and hikers and offers many experiences along the way. From Knud Rasmussen's House in Hundested to the historic Nakkehoved Lighthouse in Gilleleje, and the art museum Rudolph Tegner's Museum in Dronningmølle, the nature surrounding the route is equally remarkable—from the heather-covered hills at Heather Hill to the dramatic views at Gilbjerg Head.

You can cycle Route 47 in one day or divide it into several stages and stay overnight in the charming coastal towns along the way.

Along the route, you will find several child-friendly beaches, perfect for a swim or a picnic. There are many ice cream kiosks and small eateries along the way, where you can enjoy everything from gourmet cuisine to classic beach food. Should you need a break or rest, you can take the train between the towns, as the North Coast Route follows the local train network in North Zealand.

Along the route, you’ll find several supermarkets, kiosks, and gas stations where you can buy supplies. A little tip: If your water bottle runs out, look for a church; there’s often a tap where you can refill it.
