Mysterious Autumn Holiday at Esrum Abbey - The Monks' Secret

Your mission is to uncover a great secret by solving puzzles in the mystery game at Esrum Abbey. The game is called “The White Monks’ Lodge.”

Using a series of letters, a puzzle, and codes, you will be sent around the abbey grounds. To gain access to the 800-year-old secret, you must solve the tasks. The entire abbey comes into play in this adventure, and you will receive the game at the abbey's courtyard shop. Best suited for older children, from around 8 years old.

Experience the Mystery of the Monks’ Secret at Esrum Abbey and Mill Farm

In this adventure, you will become a member of The White Monks’ Lodge and embark on a journey to find a chest containing an 800-year-old secret. The lodge needs your help because you must find the secret before it’s revealed to others!

Solve Puzzles and Uncover the Secret

When you arrive at Esrum Abbey and Mill Farm, you will receive mysterious letters at the courtyard shop. These letters contain puzzles that you must solve around the abbey, both indoors in the exhibitions and outdoors in nature.

The mystery game is a fun and engaging way to learn about the abbey’s history, and you can collaborate with your family like a real detective. Follow clues and hints in the letters, as they will guide you to the chest with the great secret.

This mystery game is suitable for children and adults from 8 years and up and lasts about an hour.

Creative Activities and Campfire Baking

In addition to the mystery game, a variety of other cosy autumn activities are offered, which people of all ages can participate in. Alternatively, you can warm yourself around a campfire and bake delicious cookies over the flames. If you dare, you can also listen to mysterious stories in the monks’ cellar.

• Booking: Tickets are purchased at the shop at Esrum Abbey upon arrival.

Café, Children's Barn, and Nature Playground

Visit the Mill Café, which offers a special children’s menu during the autumn holiday. Adults can also enjoy a good lunch, warm up with coffee and cake, or simply savour a freshly tapped monastery beer.

The nature playground is ready to welcome children of all ages, where you can play and experience medieval times with a manor house, market square, zip line, trebuchet swing, herring barrels, and much more.

Exhibition and Shop

With your ticket, you also get access to the abbey’s exhibitions.

Visit the abbey’s exhibitions, including the Virtual Reality exhibition with the cool VR glasses in “Power in the Name of Heaven.” You can also challenge yourself with the Reformation Game, where your family can help decide the fate of Denmark!

The abbey shop will also be open throughout the autumn holiday. The shop, as always, has a selection of fine monastery products on the shelves, along with plenty of toys and books.
